OLE MISS CONVERGE ON DALLAS FOR 73RD AT&T COTTON BOWLThe No. 25 Ole Miss Rebels converged on Dallas today by private vehicle for the 73rd AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic and their New Year’s opponent, the No. 7 Texas Tech Red Raiders (11-1, 7-1 Big 12).
Ole Miss (8-4, 5-3 SEC) and Texas Tech will square off for the fifth time in the last Classic in venerable Cotton Bowl Stadium. The series is tied at 2-2 but the Rebels are 2-0 against the Red Raiders in bowl games. This will be the fourth Cotton Bowl appearance for Ole Miss. The Rebels defeated TCU 14-13 in the 1956 game, dropped a 12-7 decision to Texas in 1962 and knocked off Oklahoma State 31-28 in 2004.
Ole Miss first-year head coach Houston Nutt is also no stranger to the Cotton Bowl. Nutt led Arkansas to two Cotton Bowl appearances (2000 and 2002) including a 27-6 win over Texas in the 64th Classic. During his 10 years in Fayetteville, Nutt guided the Razorbacks to eight bowl berths, three SEC Western Division titles and two trips to the SEC Football Championship Game.
The Rebels will kick off their Cotton Bowl week preparations with a two-hour practice on Saturday at SMU Stadium, the practice home for Ole Miss in Dallas.
Immediately following practice, Ole Miss will conduct its media day with players available on the field from 1:30-2 p.m. and Coach Nutt available in the north end zone, third level from 2-2:30 p.m.
Saturday night both teams will enjoy a FOX Sports welcome event featuring comedian Frank Caliendo of “Frank TV” on TBS and “FOX Sports Sunday.”
The 73rd AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic will be televised nationally on FOX Sports and broadcasted nationally on Westwood One Radio. Kickoff is slated for 1:15 p.m. CST.
